All BER certs are €125 for the months of February and March
The BER is part of a European wide initiative to improve the energy efficiency of domestic and non-domestic buildings and thus lower their carbon footprint.
In Ireland the scheme is operated by the Sustainable Energy Association of Ireland (SEAI).
Ratings are carried out by registered assessors who have been trained to the standards required by the SEAI.
The BER cert is produced after a detailed analysis of the plans for new builds, or by way of a site visit for existing buildings.
From this gathered data an energy efficiency certificate is produced using custom software.
As of January 2007 ALL new domestic dwellings require a BER cert and must comply with part L of the building regulations with regards to energy usage.
On January 1st 2009 the BER scheme was extended to existing properties. Under the new legislation anyone offering a home for sale or rent is required to have a valid BER cert for the property.
A BER can also be of great benefit to the homeowner who wishes to get impartial advise on methods to reduce the energy costs of their property.
